Play as Boris in this Bendy prequel

Boris and the Dark Survival is a third-person top-down survival horror video game wherein you experience a dark adventure within the ominous hallways of an abandoned animation studio. Developed by Joey Drew Studios, this game is the standalone side prequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine. In the game, you play as Boris the Wolf, the lanky cartoon companion of Bendy. You have to collect various supplies, secrets, and scraps in each level—all the while avoiding the insidious Ink Demon that stalks you. The game plays out like classic horror games, such as Slenderman and Amnesia, wherein you can’t fight back against the enemies, but you can run and hide to survive.

Save Boris

Bendy and the Ink Machine is an episodic first-person puzzle action horror game developed by Joey Drew Studios. Containing five chapters, you follow retired animator Henry Stein, who inadvertently awakened an evil entity residing in his old animation studio and must now find a way to escape. BatIM brings back old-school black and white cartoon animation and presents it in a horrifying nightmare of a beautiful 3D world. This returns in Boris and the Dark Survival, but this time, there’s not much plot to enjoy.

Boris and the Dark Survival is set years before the start of BatIM, with Buddy Boris in hiding before he meets Henry Stein and decides to help him out. In this prequel, you guide Boris into exploring every procedurally-generated level for supplies that your checklist asks for. After a certain number of items have been collected, the Ink Demon spawns. There are some Little Miracle Stations around the map that you can hide in to avoid him, and you can sprint, as well. However, it consumes Bacon Soup.

You can replenish that using the Tasty Eats Machines. You can only exit the level through the elevator, after collecting all supplies. But the Ink Demon will aggressively chase after you. Aside from supplies, you have to collect secrets and scraps of paper found in lockers. Collecting all seven pieces will unlock the ending, and that's it. The game doesn’t have a full story. There’s not much variation in the gameplay, and the Ink Demon’s AI isn’t too threatening. All in all, the game is mostly just recommended for Bendy fans.
